Marketplace Guidelines
Version marketplace-v2-2026-07-28 · Last updated: 2026-07-28
Marketplace is where enthusiasts sell parts and whole builds to each other. It works because people are straight with each other. Here is what that means in practice.
The short version
- Garage Built never touches the money. No payments, no escrow, no fees on your sale. You and
the other person work it out directly.
- We are not a party to your deal. We do not verify parts, inspect vehicles, hold funds, or
guarantee anything about what gets sold. That is on the two of you.
- You have to be 18 and in the U.S. at launch.
- Deals happen off-platform. Meet up, ship it, whatever you agree to. Just be smart about it.
What you can list
Parts. Anything you would actually bolt to a vehicle: engine and drivetrain, suspension, brakes, wheels and tires, body and exterior, interior, lighting and electrical, audio, recovery and utility, maintenance and replacement parts.
Complete builds. The whole vehicle, when you are selling the vehicle. Complete-build sales are local-only at launch, and they link to your actual Garage Built build so the buyer can see the history.
What you cannot list
- Anything you do not own or do not have the right to sell.
- Counterfeit parts, or parts represented as something they are not.
- Airbags, seat belts, and other supplemental restraint components. Used SRS parts are a safety
and liability problem no marketplace should be in the middle of.
- Weapons, ammunition, drugs, alcohol, tobacco, or anything else that is not a vehicle part.
- Services or labor. Standalone vehicle tune files are allowed as vehicle parts; unrelated digital
goods are not.
Vehicle modifications and driving content are not prohibited just because they are risky, illegal, track-only, or controversial. That includes emissions-delete/defeat-device parts and tunes, nitrous, burnouts, drifting, and street racing. You are responsible for the laws that apply to you; Garage Built does not claim a listing or modification is lawful or road-legal.
Being straight about condition
Describe what you are actually selling. If it is cracked, say it is cracked. If it came off a car that was hit, say that. Photos of the real item, not a catalog render — that is a listing rule and not a suggestion.
Price it yourself. We do not set, suggest, or verify prices, and we do not take a cut.
Meeting up
- Public place, daylight, somewhere with cameras if you can.
- Bring someone.
- Look at the part before money changes hands.
- Nobody legitimate needs a gift card, a wire transfer, or your banking login. That is a scam,
every time, with no exceptions.
- Trust your gut. A deal that feels wrong is a deal you can walk away from.
Messaging
A first message from someone you do not know arrives as a request. You decide whether to open the thread. Declining is silent — they are not told. Blocking hides both of you from each other completely.
Messages cannot be edited, only deleted, and a deleted message shows as deleted to both people. We built it that way on purpose: a negotiation where one side can quietly rewrite what they said is a negotiation you cannot trust.
Reporting
Report a listing, a message, or a seller from the item itself. Reports go to a restricted queue that only authorized admins can see. We do not tell the person who reported them.
If something is dangerous or illegal, report it here and to your local authorities. We are not a substitute for the police.
What we can do
We can remove a listing, restrict Marketplace access, or suspend an account. Removed listings stop appearing everywhere immediately, including for the seller. We will tell you why.
